Keri Hilson Opens Up About Controversial 2009 Beyoncé Diss Track

In a candid revelation, Keri Hilson has addressed the long-standing controversy surrounding the 2009 remix of her song “Turnin’ Me On,” which was widely perceived as a diss toward Beyoncé. Speaking on The Breakfast Club on April 9, Hilson expressed regret over the track, clarifying that the contentious lyrics were not her own. She recounted how producer Polow da Don presented her with the verse, written by another member of their team, during a demanding period in her career. Despite her initial resistance, Hilson claimed she was pressured into recording the lines under the threat of delaying her debut album’s release.

The lyrics in question included phrases that listeners interpreted as direct jabs at Beyoncé, leading to significant backlash against Hilson. She revealed that the experience left her feeling powerless and distressed, noting that she protected those involved by not disclosing the full story at the time. Co-writer Ester Dean later acknowledged her role, admitting the lyrics were “childish” and had not aged well, offering an apology for the hurt caused.

Reflecting on her relationship with Beyoncé, Hilson shared that they have met and exchanged greetings but never discussed the incident. She expressed a desire for a conversation to provide closure, emphasizing her longstanding admiration for Beyoncé’s artistry.

Now, Hilson is preparing for a musical comeback with her upcoming album, We Need to Talk, set for release on April 18.The project aims to explore themes of love, drama, and redemption, marking a new chapter in her career.
